Since childhood a lover of animals, Rev. Eliza Blanchard first felt called to help their caregivers while still at Harvard Divinity School.  A settled minister in Massachusetts, she helping congregants and their families with the loss of animal companions reminded her of this deep need. As well as serving as a spiritual counselor for humans and their animals, she offers spiritual direction. This need grew out of working with those seeking meaning of the death of beloveds.

She also offers interfaith All Creatures worship services, unique services during which all species come together to share music, reflection, stories, fellowship, and prayer. And open to all and free, she  offers Pet Loss Circles, gatherings supportive for those grieving their animal companions.

“To listen with heart and mind is one of the most healing acts we offer one another,” Rev. Blanchard writes. “And caregivers often need healing as much as their patients and clients do.”

Rev. Eliza lives in the Boston area with her husband and their Morkie, Maisie. She is an affiliate minister with the First Parish in Brookline, Massachusetts. She also serves as as an interfaith spiritual director.

"The essential joy of being with horses is that it brings us in contact with the rare elements of grace, beauty, spirit, and fire."
